to meanderings about the menagerie here at home. In fairness, it was a late Sun. evening and the hubby was calling that dinner was ready, so I was a tad rushed and distracted.
The two other household members, of the furred variety, would like some recognition before I get into one other book recommendation. Meet Blackie, above, a seven-year-old boy rescued from the streets of D.C. where he learned how to cope with frisky pooches, apparently. He and Lucie, our large poodle, have grown up together and play together often. Then there's the petite, but playful Fiona, below, another rescue from the Montgomery County Friends of Animals.
Except for the hubby and kid, who would really prefer to be left alone for now, there are no more introductions to be made. So let me get into a book intro, instead. Perhaps the most powerful book I ever read at the start of my path toward understanding myself and seeking a spiritual path was Shakti Gawain's, Creative Visualization.
Creative Visualization: Use the Power of Your Imagination to Create What You Want in Your Life (Gawain, Shakti)
All these years later, this book still rings true for me. Here's just some of the profound, yet seemingly obvious wisdom, from this slender volume:
"Strange as it may seem, many of us have difficulty accepting the possibility of having what we want in life. This usually stems from some basic feelings of unworthiness which we took on at a very early age. The basic belief goes something like this: "I'm really not a very good (lovable, worthwhile) person so I don't deserve to have the best."
The author then encourages readers to spend some time coming up with some self-affirming statements that contradict this inherent belief which is often barely conscious in us. She urges us to be aware of when we are undermining ourselves and to just stop and go back to the positive affirmation.
And the two Holmes books I have listed under Favorites are equally life-changing volumes. They show you in very practical terms how you can connect with your inner Divine self and discover a path to peace and joy there. Who doesn't need more of those, I ask you now? More to come. Stay tuned!
