Money, Money, Money!

Dealing With Money Problems

Oct. 22, 2012

Many clients have expressed an ongoing concern in their lives with money issues. I am totally empathetic with these concerns, having had my share of financial challenges--and continuing to struggle with this even now. So what lies at the root of money problems?

There are many intertwined issues related to scarcity, real and imagined. For instance, if we grew up feeling we weren't deserving, feeling deprived, feeling habitually "less than" with all the shame, anger, and victimhood emotions attached to those feelings, then we may act all of those feelings out or re-create that entire drama with our money.

Perhaps when we were younger, we felt trapped in a place where nobody understood us. Now we have reinvented a financial crisis as a way (unconsciously) to hang on to that familiar feeling of being trapped. We have put ourselves in yet another box of our own making--and there is a certain comfortable familiarity in being there. If we were to step out of the box, we might make mistakes, we might not know what choices to pursue, who knows what might happen?

If we were ashamed in childhood, perhaps we keep ourselves in a state of shame now. Or maybe we're "showing" someone who made us feel terrible about ourselves by proving them right! So, out of habit, we act out our shame and our anger around money.

And there's an added bonus. This acting out gets us attention, sympathy, and makes us feel superior to all those cad-like materialistic, successful folks we know. Besides, it makes people want to rescue us. So we are victims and there's nothing we can do about it. You get the idea. All of the emotions that make up our story get played out around money.

Besides, our unconscious believes that if we don't hang on to our "story," rooted in all these conflicting emotions and patterns from early in life, we may not only lose the attention and sympathy and concern we're used to, but we may also wind up alone and abandoned. Or, even scarier, we might have to take responsibility for ourselves and learn how to manage our money wisely.

Either consciously or unconsciously, we may glorify the concept of struggle and hardship, poverty, and need. We may feel how noble we at the bottom rung of this vapid, materialistic world truly are!

In addition to these emotional residues of unworthiness, lack, shame, anger, deprivation, and similar thoughts and patterns, money issues may be tied to previous vows of poverty, karmic curses or binds for limiting abundance, or other etheric or past-life situations we may not be aware of.

To change a pattern of lack and limitation, at least 51% of our entire energy field needs to feel it is safe to  do so. Here are some tips on how to do just that.

We need to:
  • believe in the abundance of the Universe and trust that the more we prosper, the more good we can do in the world, the more we can share that prosperity (so we are being a force for good)
  • truly desire greater prosperity with all our hearts
  • be open to accepting or allowing it
